Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738/51G Watch
The defining feature of this collection is the elliptical case, a shape that sits in between a circle and a rectangle. This collection was a trailblazer, as when it first launched in 1968 it was considered bold to stray away from traditional watch shapes. However, the collection succeeded as it was the uniquely shaped case that made it have an ultra appealing presence to the eye. The design of the case was inspired by ancient Greek mathematicians who discovered the divine proportion known as the “golden section” which is a ratio of 1 / 1.6181 and is the basis for some of the most famous architecture and works of art in the world.
